Dermaplaning with a chemical peel: why the combination works
TL;DR
Dermaplaning with a chemical peel combines two exfoliating treatments in one appointment. Dermaplaning removes dead skin and fine hair first, so the peel can work more evenly on a smoother surface. It suits dull skin, uneven tone and rough texture. Adding dermaplaning to a peel costs £15 and around 15 minutes, and daily SPF afterwards is essential.
Dermaplaning with a chemical peel is one of our most popular treatment combinations, and for good reason. Dermaplaning gives an instant smoothness you can feel, while a peel works a little deeper on tone and renewal. Together, they make the most of both.
This guide explains how the combination works, who it suits, what happens during the appointment, what to expect afterwards and how much it costs. Gina has over 10 years' experience in the beauty industry and specialises in skincare, so this is the advice we give clients every week in our Sutton Coldfield salon.

Why combine dermaplaning with a chemical peel?
Combining dermaplaning with a chemical peel works because the two treatments complement each other. Dermaplaning uses a sterile blade to remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, leaving a smooth, clean surface. The peel is then applied to that surface, so it can spread and work more evenly rather than being held back by a build-up of dead cells.
The result is skin that looks brighter and feels smoother straight away, with the peel's renewal continuing over the following days. It's a good way to get more from your appointment without booking two separate visits.
Who is dermaplaning with a chemical peel best for?
This combination is best for anyone with dull, tired skin, uneven tone, rough texture or makeup that doesn't sit smoothly. It's also a popular choice before a big event, as long as you choose the right peel and leave enough time for any flaking to settle.
- Dull or tired skin: an instant glow from dermaplaning, with brighter tone building from the peel.
- Uneven tone and early pigmentation: a Medik8 peel works on discolouration while dermaplaning smooths the surface.
- Rough texture: both treatments help skin feel softer and look more refined.
- Before an event: a gentle peel with dermaplaning, booked at least a week ahead.
Gina's tip: If it's your first time, combine dermaplaning with one of our gentler peels. You'll get that instant smoothness with very little risk of flaking, and we can build up from there.
What happens during the appointment?
Your skin is cleansed and dried, then dermaplaning is carried out first with gentle, light strokes. Next, your chosen peel is applied and left for a set time based on its strength and how your skin responds, before being removed or neutralised. We finish with a soothing moisturiser and SPF.
Dermaplaning itself is painless. During the peel, tingling, warmth or mild stinging is normal and settles quickly. You can read more about the options in our guide to how chemical peels work and which strength is right for you.
What should you expect afterwards?
After dermaplaning with a chemical peel, your skin will feel smooth and may look slightly pink or feel tight for a day. Depending on the strength of the peel, you may notice light flaking over the next few days. Because you've had two exfoliating treatments, your skin will be more sensitive than after either one alone, so aftercare matters even more.
- Wear SPF 30 or higher every day for at least a week.
- Avoid retinol, acids, scrubs and heavy makeup until your skin has settled.
- Skip saunas, hot baths and hard workouts for a day or two.
- Never pick at flaking skin. Let it shed naturally.

At Gina Rose Beauty, adding dermaplaning to a peel costs £15 and adds around 15 minutes. Chemical peels start from £40 for an enzyme peel, with Icy peels from £60, the Medik8 Universal peel at £80 and the Medik8 Advanced peel at £100. So a combined treatment starts from £55.
Who should check with us first
This combination isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active acne, cold sores or skin infections, or after recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use. Tell us if you have a skin condition such as rosacea or eczema, or if you've recently tanned. The American Academy of Dermatology's guidance on preparing for a chemical peel covers the same checks.

Frequently asked questions
Can you have dermaplaning and a chemical peel at the same time?
Yes. Dermaplaning with a chemical peel in the same appointment is a popular combination. Dermaplaning is done first, then the peel is applied to the freshly smoothed skin.
Why have dermaplaning with a chemical peel?
Dermaplaning with a chemical peel helps the peel work more evenly, because dead skin cells and fine hair have already been removed. You get instant smoothness plus the peel's deeper renewal.
Will I peel after dermaplaning and a chemical peel?
It depends on the peel. Gentle peels often cause little or no visible flaking, while stronger Medik8 peels may cause light flaking for a few days.
How much does it cost to add dermaplaning to a peel?
Adding dermaplaning costs £15 and around 15 minutes. Peels start from £40, so a combined treatment starts from £55 at our Sutton Coldfield salon.
Can I have this before an event?
Yes, but book at least a week ahead and choose a gentler peel, so any flaking has settled in time.
How often can I have dermaplaning with a peel?
It depends on the strength of the peel and how your skin responds. We'll recommend a plan at your consultation.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It can be, with a gentle peel, but sensitive skin needs careful assessment first. We always check your suitability before treatment.
